Why do you need to know salary range to create an industry benchmark?
We currently slice data into 3 broad buckets based on compensation. We do that because generally, that maps pretty well to how existing teams score when benchmarking the assessment. Engineers who eg work at Netflix making $500k/year average a higher score than e.g. me.
Here is where we're calibrated for Data Eng, Backend Engineering, and Fullstack for 2025:
- Tier 1 typically competes against other hybrid or local companies outside of tier 1 markets (eg SF, Seattle, NYC).
- Tier 2 typically competes against all US Remote and some tier 1 market tech companies. A Senior Engineer with 5-7 years experience making in the $160-220k range + equity
- Tier 3 competes with eg Meta and FAANG and is north of $220k salary for a 5-7 yr experience Senior
