Tips for Maximizing Candidate Completion Rate

What are typical completion rates?

If you're speaking to a candidate first and using our recommended talk tracks for prepping candidates for Woven, then we typically see around an 85% completion rate. Without this talk track, around two-thirds of candidates complete their work simulation.

When Woven is the first step in the interview process, we typically see around one-third of candidates complete their work simulation.

If you’re seeing lower completion rates, here are a few ideas we can help you implement.

Woven’s most-successful customers sell the Woven interview step during their pre-Woven conversation with the candidate.

These talking points drive ~85% completion rate for Senior Engineers

We recommend mentioning the following points when speaking to candidates about the Woven exercise:

3 Key Talking Points
  • Real Work - This is real engineering work you might encounter in this role. It’s not some made-up academic computer science problem.
  • You’re Guaranteed Feedback - We have 2 engineers analyze your work to provide constructive feedback.
  • Tight Timebox - This isn’t a take-home project where some candidates might spend 20 hours. We use a timebox to ensure you’re not being compared to candidates who have way more free time.
Ask: “Are you comfortable with that as your next step?”

Then, if the candidate raises concerns, you have an opportunity to address them.

Video From Hiring Manager

Taking 5 minutes to create a short Loom video from the hiring manager answering the most common questions a candidate may have about your company and the role can make a big difference.

Woven can help you add this to the email invitation template. We’ve seen customers double their completion rates when adding this simple video.

Record a short video of yourself talking about the role and send us the link (contact your CSM or email us at help@woventeams.com). We'll embed the video in your invitation email.

Customize the first email

It’s important to sell why the Woven assessment is valuable to both you and the candidate in the initial email.  Typically Woven customers will customize the first email to highlight things about the role and company that are attractive, such as remote work and compensation. You can also add some personality to your first email that gives the candidate an idea of what your company is like!

If you’d like to customize the initial email, let your CSM know and they will be happy to assist.

More questions about how you're currently prepping candidates for Woven and how we might help you increase that completion rate? We'd be happy to share some additional strategies!
